Jo Ernst is a professional artist formerly from the Blue Mountains now based in Mooral Creek, a small community in the hinterland of the Manning Valley. Jo has been involved in the arts all of her working life. In 1980 she completed the 3 year Dress Design Course at East Sydney Technical College and worked as a couturier Designer for 18 years. This was overlapped by studies in fine art - in France with Ted Seth Jacobs, a tutor from the Art Student's League, New York and a further 3 years at Paddington Art School with Stephen Wesley Gorton - leading to a later career as a visual artist and teacher. She has now been teaching, exhibiting and selling her work for 25 years.
This body of work is a culmination of drawings and paintings executed over the last two years. Characteristically, nudes form a dominant part of the collection. Other works deal with themes that are close to my heart, water, music, the night.
The works are bound together by the intention to connect with the core of my subject. Moving through the structural I strive to connect with the essence that is intrinsic to everyone and everything and to allow a sense of the life force to breathe through my work.
